Lucas Coelho (PSD) is accused of murdering ex-fiance shot; family members report that victim had requested protective measure
The councilman of Araújos (MG) Lucas Coelho (PSD), 33, was arrested after surrendering to the police on Thursday (5.jun.2025). He is suspected of killing Professor Jhonathan Silva Simões, 31, with whom he had a love relationship. The court had already decreed Rabbit’s pre -trial detention.
Jhonathan was shot dead on May 28 at the entrance of his residence in Formiga (MG). The teacher was found with bullet injuries on his back, abdomen and forearm.
According to information provided by family members to the authorities, the victim had requested a protective measure against the ex-fiancé after receiving threats, but the request was not accepted by the court.
Authorities did not disclose information on the investigation ongoing or possible witnesses of the crime. During his presentation to the police, the councilman did not comment on the accusations.
Lucas Coelho had 354 votes in his reelection in 2024 in the municipality of Araújos, which has 9,199 inhabitants.
Prior to the detention, the issued statement stating that he had not received formal notification from the authorities about the investigation involving the councilman and that “there were no formal elements that justified any institutional action”.
“The Araújos City Council remains attentive to the consequences of the case, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, legality and respect for society, as well as ethics in the exercise of the parliamentary mandate”says the note.
