Sorting waste is a matter of course for many – some do it from the care of the planet, others for fear of fine. But the result is important. Are you wondering if you should rinse plastic containers from yogurt or juice before throwing away? Here’s a clear answer.

Is the plastic should be washed before throwing away?

There are a long time when we were throwing everything in one bag. Today we are wondering what it belongs – and we often ask if the plastic should be washed before throwing away. The answer may surprise you.

In Slovakia No plastic packaging should be thoroughly washed before throwing out. It is important that they are empty and without food residues. This means that, for example, if it is a bottle of yogurt, it is enough to shake the content – it does not need to be washed.

Washing will be taken over by recycling equipment

If you wash each bottle or packaging thoroughly, you would spend a lot of water. However, recycling companies still wash the packaging – And mass cleaning consumes significantly less water than the home. Water saving is also saving the planet.

Where does which waste belong to?

Color containers in residential zones are usually marked:

  • blue – papier,
  • green – Glass,
  • yellow – plastic and metals,
  • brown – biological waste,
  • black or gray – Mixed municipal waste.

However, read carefully container designationbecause not everywhere the same rule applies. For example, white and colored glass is distinguished in some municipalities.

The most common mistakes in sorting waste

Waste sorting is common, but not everything is as clear as it seems. For example: is milk packaging paper, plastic or combined? And where does a broken plate belong?

What should you know:

  • Used paper towels, handkerchiefs, colored napkins, glossy magazines or photos do not belong to a blue paper container but to the mixed waste.
  • Milk or juice packaging patria do yellow container (plastic and metals).
  • Tempered glass, ceramics, bulbs, mirrors and window glass do not belong to the glass container.
  • To the yellow container They do not include batteries, electrical appliances or color packaging – they need to be taken to a specialized location. They exist in Slovakia Collecting yards. Each municipality should have such a point – this is where you can hand over batteries, old electrical appliances and other hazardous waste.
  • Animal waste – bones, meat residues or dog excrements – do not belong to a brown container to bio -waste. Excrement should be put in a special bag and thrown into mixed waste.
  • Remains of vegetables, fruits, bread or coffee deposits can go to bio -waste.
  • Bones and meat According to the basic rules, they always belong to a mixed container.

However, always check the rules in your village, they may vary slightly. For example, in Bratislava and Košice, meat and bones can be thrown into bio -waste, but in Nové Zámky such waste in bio -waste is prohibited. And if you are unsure, look at the package designation – the manufacturer should indicate a symbol of recycling and sorting.
