A 93 -year -old man has died in an elderly residence in Zaragoza for smoke inhalation after the explosion of the oxygen bottle that was in his room, in an event that has also left 19 injured by poisoning, according to sources of the City Council of the Aragonese capital. The explosion, which originated a significant amount of smoke, has occurred around 23.10 hours on Friday night in a room on the ground floor of the Domusvi Zalfonada residence, at number 56 of Salvador Allende de Zaragoza street.
From the first moment a wide emergency device has been deployed in which they have participated in a coordinated endowments of the National Police, Local Police, Firefighters and Health Services. The troops have quickly intervened to evacuate residents, breaking windows to get trapped people. The victim has died from smoke inhalation and 19 people have also been injured by poisoning and have been evacuated in ambulances to different health centers. Domusvi has capacity for 150 people, but at the time of the events there were 132 residents. Of them, about 50 were on the ground floor and have been evacuated.
Social services are looking for an alternative for 35 residents whose rooms were on the ground floor and those who at the moment cannot return, point from the City of Zaragoza. The rooms of the second and third plants have not been affected. Dozens of relatives have approached the place to be interested in the elderly, as well as the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca. The causes of the fire are being investigated. Agents of the Scientific Police, the Judicial Police and the Court on Guard are carrying out the appropriate proceedings.
