Commercial Agreement: USA and China will resume negotiations on Monday (9)

United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday that American and Chinese authorities will meet in London on Monday to discuss trade between the two countries.

“I am pleased to announce that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick and US commercial representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will meet in London on Monday, June 9, 2025, with representatives of China, to discuss the trade agreement,” Trump wrote in a publication on the social Truth.

The announcement was made after, Xi Jinping, talk for 90 minutes on Thursday (5). After the call, the US president said he was excited about the possibility of ongoing commercial tensions being resolved soon.

The latest conversations between the Trump administration and Chinese authorities, held on May 12 in Geneva, represented an important turning point in the global trade war.

Delegates from China and the United States have announced that they would significantly reduce their own. Markets recovered, Wall Street banks reduced their recession predictions, and US consumer confidence recovered significantly.

This marked a significant change from April, when tensions were so high that trade between the United States and China was effectively interrupted.

145% rates on most imported products from China have made it impossible for US companies to buy virtually anything from China, the second largest US commercial partner.

But since then, tensions have intensified again. Trump said on Wednesday (4) in a publication on the Social Truth, that it was “extremely difficult to reach an agreement with Xi.” Trade negotiations stagnated, Bessent said, apparently frustrating Trump.

Last week, Trump posted on social networks that China “with us”.

Trump said he made a “quick deal” with China to “save them than I thought it would be a very bad situation.” He added, “So much is Mr. Cara Gentil!”

The Trump administration expected China to suspend restrictions on rare land materials, which are essential for a wide range of electronics, but China refused largely, causing intense discontent within the Trump government and leading to the imposition of a number of recent measures to the country, three government officials told the government officials to CNN last week.

For example, the White House warned US companies against the use of AI chips manufactured by Huawei, China’s national technology champion.

The White House prevented US companies from selling to China software used to design semiconductors. And the US State Department has announced that it would “aggressively revoke the visas” of some Chinese students in the US.

China, in turn, accused the United States of “provoking and commercial”.

“The United States has been unilaterally provoking new economic and commercial friction, exacerbating the uncertainty and instability of bilateral economic and commercial relations,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Bessent, the main US negotiator with China, said the conversations with Beijing were stagnant.

But Trump and Xi were waited for a call on Thursday, which seems to have calmed the situation a little. The New York Times reported on Friday that China issued some rare land licenses, although the market is still recovering.

Negotiations in the UK are significant and much depends on their success – US economic growth remains stable, but there are signs that it is breaking. And no one wants to go back to the April impasse, which has threatened to immerse the global economy into a recession.

The American actions, which had recovered earlier this day with a strong job report, climbed a little after Trump’s message on the Truth Social program about the resumption of negotiations. Dow Jones rose 450 points, or 1.1%. The S&P 500 rose 1.2% and NASDAQ, 1.3%.
