Planning a wedding in the US is stressful for many couples. Recently, increasing expenditures for the introduction of duties on imports into the US have also joined the “common problems”. TASR informs this on the basis of AP report.

Wedding cakes, decoration, clothing, flowers, celebrations, photo and video technology, dishes, wine and champagne. Many of the goods used in the wedding industry hit the duties that President Donald Trump has introduced from his return to the White House in January. How much of the import fees is transferred to consumers will depend on suppliers and their possibilities to absorb at least part of the costs.

The transition to American goods is not easy and cost -effective. About 80 % of cut flowers in the US come from other countries – Ecuador, Colombia or the Netherlands. They are already subject to 10 percent blanket duties. And these can be increased after the introduction of the so -called. reciprocal duties for imports from countries with which the US has a trade deficit.

They also increased food

Even confectioners are not better, vanilla pods, chocolate and other ingredients for wedding cakes are also imported. The chocolate industry has previously had high prices problems for the lack of cocoa beans.

To make matters worse, almost all wedding dresses are produced in China or other parts of Asia, as well as many of the substances used, buttons, zippers and other materials, says National Bridal Retailers Association. Production in those countries where the workforce is cheaper has enabled many American families to afford a quality wedding dress.

Retailmen and manufacturers say that the US lacking skilled workforce and the production of specialized materials to replace imports. “The materials we sell in the wedding shop include lace, beads, bones into corsets. In this country, we really do not produce such things,” said Christine Greenberg, founder and co -owner of the Boutique Urban Set Bride in Richmond, Virginia. “We can’t buy US products when they don’t,” she added.

Duties may be liquidation

If resumes of 145 % import duties from China are renewed, which will expire in July, for many small businesses in the wedding industry it will be liquidation.

Jacqueline Vizcain plans weddings and other events in Atlanta. She is also the National President of the Association of Professionals of the Wedding Industry, a group that brings together providers of limousine, photographers, make -up artists, catering and other experts. Each wedding can include 40 or more service providers, Vizcain said. Many weddings are planned up to a year in advance, sometimes more. The uncertainty and confusion of duties now very much make cost estimates.
