Investment will take place within 5 years
Fifteen great French businessmen who have business in Brazil in various sectors pledged to invest, in the next 5 years, $ 100 billion in the country. The commitment was signed in a meeting with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in Paris, France, this Friday (6).
At a press conference this Saturday morning (7), Paris time, Lula pointed out that the trips he makes abroad bring great benefits to Brazil.
“If we add the investments we got in China, if we add the investments we got in Japan, we will realize that we are doing what every President of the Republic would need to do for Brazil,” he said.
France is the third largest origin of direct investments in Brazil. They are US $ 66.34 billion in stock. According to Planalto, it is estimated that more than 1,000 French companies act in Brazil, with direct responsibility for the generation of 500,000 jobs.
The Brazilian president added that his work is to open the dialogue between Brazilian and foreign entrepreneurs to expand business. “The president’s role is to open the door and say to the guys: ‘Look, here is the possibilities, we produce it, we offer it, what do you have to offer us?’, And that’s what I did here in France,” he added.
Lula has been in France since June 5, on the first trip of a head of state to the country in 13 years. On the trip, the 20 bilateral agreements of the Brazil-France Strategic Partnership Action Plan were deepened.
Helicopter
Another project discussed between Lula and France President Emmanuel Macron is cooperation for helicopter production at the Brazilian company Factory Helibrás, in Itajubá (MG). The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, commented on the initiative to use the plant of Brazil.
“[Os] Helicopters that can serve state police, state governments, may be employed by health agencies and also with the objectives of defense and control of the environment. Itajubá facilities can also be used for future exports to other countries in the region that are interested, ”he explained.
Brazil and France also signed, on the current trip, bilateral cooperation agreements for the development of vaccines and laboratory products, involving Fiocruz and French institutions, such as the Pasteur Institute.
UE-Mercosul Agreement
Regarding the Mercosur agreement with the European Union (EU), Lula questioned the thesis that French agriculture would be harmed by Brazilian agribusiness. For the president, the statement is not correct because there are quotas for exporting Brazilian products.
“If they fulfilled the quota, at most, the French would eat two hamburgers [de carne importada do Brasil]on average, per year. It’s nothing, ”said the president, adding that he suggested to President Macron that Brazilian and French farmers would meet to discuss the matter.
“Far from me want to harm the little French farmer. I don’t want us to stop comparing France wine, although we produce wine,” Lula added, noting that trade policy is a two -way way.
The president also recalled that the EU has 27 countries and that the deal has to be collective, despite the French resistance. “I think the European Parliament approves the agreement, regardless of whether France wants or not, because France has already given a power of attorney,” he said.
