The mayor,he said just on Saturday (07) that, since he took over the house, he avoided speeches that divide the country. “I think that, in recent days, we had the opportunity to really get into this agenda. And that was, I think, strengthened, pushed, in front of this last decision of the government to once again announce tax increase,” he said during a panel on the Sphere Forum, held in Guarujá, São Paulo coast. For Motta, against or in favor of the current government, the current situation that the country goes through “worries everyone.” “I think this is a feeling that it must surely be, if not unanimous, but a vast majority in this audience that has a significant importance for our country,” he said.

The mayor argued that each must take a little responsibility for the construction of the agenda so that it is not always outsourced. “I think everyone here can play an important role, especially in the mobilization of society, in favor of an agenda or an agenda that it can often be antipatic or not friendly,” he said. “If we have the ability to communicate, to face naked and raw reality as it is, we will realize that we have no time to postpone, because what is at stake is the future of our country,” he added.

Sunday meeting

The mayor also said that it is necessary to wait what the government will present at the meeting scheduled for this Sunday (8), which will have representatives of Congress and ministers of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to discuss adjustments to the Financial Operations Tax (IOF). “We marked the meeting because we understand that the government needs a chance to present alternatives to IOF,” he told reporters, who classified the measures that rise the tribute as “unhappy”, being poorly received in Congress. “We draw the attention of the government itself.”

Motta said it is necessary to solve the short -term fiscal problem of 2025 accounts, but also think of more structural changes for the long run. “Congress needs to have the courage to face these themes,” he said to journalists. “In the Fiscal Responsibility Flag, the time has come to make important, structuring decisions.”

Lula

At the same time, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Saturday (7) in Paris that everything is “right” regarding the tax on financial operations (IOF). “You can be sure that exactly what we get, without fights, without conflict, just doing what has to be done, talking, finding a solution and resolving,” he said to journalists when asked if the government has an alternative proposal to avoid the overthrow of the tax in Congress.

Lula said he had a meeting at his home this week to discuss the IOF, with the presence of Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), and Senate, David Alcolumbre (Union-AP), as well as Gabriel Galipolo, from the Central Bank, and Rui Costa, from the Civil House. “It was a beautiful meeting. It’s all right,” Lula said in the city of Luz.
