How is the recap to the pantry
The recap playoff tournament will have six selections. Two will guarantee the last vacancies for the 2026 World Cup. The format is unprecedented in history. The next World Cup will be the first with 48 teams.
Except UEFA (Europe), each confederation will be entitled to a place in the playoff. They are: Conmebol (South America); Concacaf (North America, Central America and the Caribbean); AFC (Asia); CAF (Africa) and OFC (Oceania). A sixth vacancy will be given to a selection of Concacaf, confederation of host countries.
Based on the FIFA ranking, the two best selections among the six rated for the recap advance phase without entering the field. Then they will compete for a World Cup spot against the winners of the first two eliminatory games involving the other four teams.
The tournament will have four games and two phases. It will be played in at least one of the host countries of the World Cup and will serve as a test for stadiums.
