Neither luck nor strategy: Spaniards say Portugal is one of the most 'fortunate' countries in Euromillions and these are the reasons

Two Portuguese gamblers were awarded the second Euromillions prize in Friday’s draw, each worth 2,737,810.69 euros. At stake was the largest jackpot ever placed the draw in this contest: 250 million euros. But with the EuroMillions award, there is also the responsibility of delivering tax to the state.

More than half a million for public coffers

Given the value of each of the EuroMillions awards awarded in the national territory, the state will raise about 547 thousand euros in seal tax, resulting from the retention of 20% over the two combined prizes.

According to the same source, the awards attributed to bets registered in Portugal are paid exclusively in the national territory, and the beads issued by the game terminal are the only valid documents to claim the award.

What happens after winning

In the case of awards greater than 5,000 euros, as with these two, the payment is made by bank transfer, and the holder of the bet personally identifies at the facilities of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Games Department of Lisbon.

The site explains that the awards up to 150 euros can be raised directly from the mediators.

Awards between 150 and 2,000 euros are paid by bank transfer, also in the mediators or at the Game Department facilities.

In prizes between 2,000 and 5,000 euros, in addition to bank transfer, face -to -face identification is required.

For prizes above 5,000 euros, the transfer is only made twelve days after the winner’s validation and face -to -face identification.
