Lula met this Sunday at a lunch in Monaco, with the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Sunday, 8, that it is convinced that it will be possible to sign the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union by the end of 2025, during the Brazilian command in the South American bloc. According to Lula, the measure will be essential to ensure multilateralism in the context of “resurgence of protectionism.”
“As I emphasized in my recent state visit to France, it is essential to make an effort to clarify the full compatibility of this agreement with the interests of both parties from the environmental, commercial and strategic point of view,” said the president in X.
Lula met this Sunday at a lunch in Monaco, with the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa. The president was accompanied by the ministers of Minas Gerais and Energia, Alexandre Silveira; Science and Technology, Luciana Santos; and Environment, Marina Silva.

According to Lula, the Brazilian government will seek, in the coming weeks, to make clear the “convergences and complementarities” between Brazilian and European agriculture. Compatibility with the Paris Agreement is also a purpose of the executive’s agenda.
“We are all actors who share the certainty that the fair energy transition represents opportunities to constitute a new agenda of inclusive economic development and that will preserve the health of the planet,” said the petista.
