The United States believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet realized his threat of retaliation against Ukraine for a drone attack last week and that the expected answer is likely to be extensive, US leaders said to Reuters, TASR writes.
Ukraine last Sunday, drone attacks on the air bases deep in Russia, destroying more than ten aircraft and damaging several others.
The timing of Russian retaliation, according to US officials who spoke on the condition of maintaining anonymity, is not known. One of the sources claims that it could occur within a few days. The second representative believes that retaliation is likely to include various rocket and drone attacks.
The attack will be different
These representatives did not give details about the expected goals of Russia. The first representative said that Moscow’s attack would be “asymmetrical”, which means that his way and goals will not mirror the Ukrainian attack from last weekend on Russian combat aircraft.
Russia has taken a large attack on Friday with missiles and drones to the Ukrainian metropolis of Kiev. The Russian Defense Ministry has seen that attacks on military buildings were a response to “terrorist acts” against Russia. According to Reuters, American officials believe that the complete Russian answer is yet to come.
Rudko wants to send a message
The diplomatic source said that although Russia’s reaction could already begin, it is likely to escalate by attacks on symbolic Ukrainian goals, such as government buildings, in an effort to send a clear message to Kiev, Reuters writes. Another diplomatic source claims that the Russian attack will be “huge, cruel and relentless”. “But the Ukrainians are a brave nation,” he added.
Russia took the attack on Saturday night and subsequently in the afternoon attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov, where, according to local officials, four people died and more than 60 suffered injuries.
