Alberto Núñez Feijóo He said he was ready to lead the country and replace Sánchez, asking the current Prime Minister to ‘income democracy’. The demonstration was called by the PP in response to corruption allegations involving people close to the socialist government.
The Leader of the Popular Party (PP) required this Sunday to the government of Pedro Sánchez, who surrendered to democracy and calls elections, claiming to be ready to replace it.
“They surrender to democracy. Call elections, we want them, because no one has voted for this,” said the leader of the Popular Party (PP, conservative), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in an inflamed speech in the manifestation called this Sunday in Madrid, under the motto “Mafia or Democracy”.
In his speech, Alberto Núñez Feijóo was available to “lead the Decience and Freedom Revolution” and was acclaimed as “President, President” between shouts that demanded “Sánchez, dismiss you”.
“Spain is ready and I’m ready. Just missing Sánchez find the courage to put the ballot box and ask the Spaniards,” said Feijóo.
Faced with thousands of people, the PP leader also said that Spain “is tired but is not defeated” and, despite recognizing that “there are different styles and intensities inside and out” of his party, the goal “is to change the government.”
The demonstration was convened by the PP in May, after the disclosure in the media, audios and videos in which a militant of the Socialist Party (PSOE), Leire Diez, speaks to entrepreneurs to ask for compromising information about a prosecutor and leaders of the Civil Guard Police Investigation Unit (UCO) who have cases of alleged corruption of people close to Sánchez and the Executive.
Feijóo was elected PP leader in 2022 and won the latest national legislatures in July 2023, but did not reach the Prime Minister of Spain for not being able to gather an absolute majority in Parliament that approved his election for office.
Since Feijóo is in charge of the PP, the party has also won the autonomic and municipal elections of May 2023, the European 2024 and the regional in Galicia last year.
In addition to being the largest party in the Parliament of Spain, the PP is at the head of the autonomic governments of 13 of the country’s 19 regions and autonomous cities.
For now, no name challenged Feijóo’s leadership at the head of the PP and the current party president is the only candidate for the July Congress.
