Hypertension drug sales registered 26% from April 2024 to March 2025 in the country. On the other hand, sector revenues mark 3% in the same period.

The information is from Interplayers, a pharmaceutical company. The survey analyzed sales of the commercial front and loyalty programs.

The increase in sales number and drop in revenues point to a movement of consumers seeking treatment at lower prices, evaluates ECS’s Data & Analytics director, Interplayers partner company, Tales Godoy.

“Growth in sales volume may indicate greater treatment adherence, but drop in revenues suggests that consumers are looking for more affordable alternatives such as generic medications or discount programs,” he says.

In the first three months of the year, there was a decrease of 1% in the number of medicines for hypertension sold and a 9% drop in revenues across the country.

The states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, which together concentrate 35% of national sales of medicines for hypertension, performed below average.

In Sao Paulo, sales fell 12% in the first quarter of this year and 6% in comparison of the last 12 months. In Rio, the fall was 16% in the first quarter, with stability (0%) in the last 12 months.

Among the other states, the highlight goes to Maranhão, which contradicted the national trend: it grew 12% in sales of the first quarter and 4% in the last 12 months. Already in Minas Gerais was observed 9% drop in sales of the quarter and 5% in the period of 12 months.
