“After all evaluations by various specialties, [Uribe] It was immediately taken to surgery for initial damage control. Once the neurosurgical and left thigh procedures was completed, it was transferred to the intensive care unit for its postoperative stabilization, ”says the statement.

The mayor of the Colombian capital, Carlos Fernando Galán, had previously said that the senator entered the “critical hours” of recovery. “Please, please accept and respect our silence,” he added. In an audio shared with the press early on Sunday, she said Uribe “is fighting for her life.”

Uribe, who is a presidential candidate of Colombia in the elections scheduled for May 2026, was giving a speech against several people when he was hit. Videos of the moment of attack were shared on social networks.

Colombia’s prosecutor reported that a suspect, a 14 -year -old, was arrested “carrying a Glock pistol (9mm) firearm.” According to witnesses, he would have arrived on a motorcycle and fired three times against Uribe before being shot in the leg by one of the senator’s security guards.

Initially the police had said that the teenager was 15 years old. According to information from the newspaper El Tiempo, the teenager told investigators of the case that he would provide information and telephone numbers of the people who would have ordered the attack.

According to Jornal El País, the Bogota Health Department reported in a statement that the other three injured during the attack are not at risk of life. One of them is the suspect, who “is stable.”

The other two are a 20 -year -old man and a 36 -year -old woman passing by. He was scraped by a bullet and has been discharged. She has suffered an injury on one leg and is stable, but will need to undergo surgery.

President Gustavo Petro opened an investigation to find out who ordered the attack.

The paramedics who attended Uribe told the press that the senator was hit by three shots, two in the head and the other in the leg. The politician was taken to the Santa Fe de Bogota Foundation Hospital. Dozens of people gathered outside the place.}

The attack took place around 5:30 pm local time (20:30 Brasília) during an event organized in a popular neighborhood in the West Zone of Bogota. Videos show the senator speaking in front of several people when he heard shots.

In another image, Uribe appears lying on a vehicle, with a bloody body, being supported by a group of men, who seem to try to stop a bleed in his head.
In October last year, Uribe announced the presidential candidacy, in the election that will define Petro’s successor, who is a strong critic.

In a recorded statement, Petro condemned the attack on a speech on Saturday night and promised to “hunt” those responsible. “What matters most today is that all Colombians should concentrate the energy of our hearts […] For Dr. Miguel Uribe to continue alive, ”he said.

“No appeal should be spared, not a single weight or a single moment of energy, to find the brain [do atentado]. Wherever they live, whether in Colombia or abroad, ”said the president. He rejected what he classified as“ attempts to political use ”of the episode.

“The patterns of crime repeat the patterns of the death of most political leaders in Colombia.”

Uribe is a member of the Democratic Center, a party led by former President Álvaro Uribe, both are not relatives, despite their surname in common. The caption stated in a statement that they shot Senator “behind the back.”

Colombian right personalities, such as former President Andrés Pastrana, who ruled the country from 1998 to 2002, associated the crime with Petro for allegedly “sowing hatred” and “inciting violence” against opposition.

The speech was reproduced by United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who condemned the attack on the most vehement.

“This is a direct threat to democracy and the outcome of the violent rhetoric of the left, coming from the highest levels of the Colombian government. Having first witnessed Colombia’s progress in recent decades to consolidate security and democracy, the country cannot afford to return to the dark days of political violence. said Rubio.

Itamaraty issued a statement in “Condemns firmly” and provides solidarity with Uribe’s family. “The Brazilian government expresses its most vehement repudiation of any form of political violence. Brazil welcomes the prominent arrest of the suspect by the Colombian authorities and trusts in the full investigation of the case,” the statement says.

The governments of Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, Spain and Paraguay repudiated the attentive, as well as Venezuela regime and Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

A traditional politician

The senator is a member of a family of long political tradition. He is the grandson of former President Julio César Turbay Ayala, who ruled Colombia from 1978 to 1982. His mother, journalist Diana Turbay, was kidnapped in 1990 by Pablo Escobar and killed the following year.

The story is told in the book “News of a kidnapping”, by Colombian writer and journalist Gabriel García Márquez (1927-2014).
