Happy is already being considered one of the most amazing paleontological discoveries in Europe in recent decades: a skeleton of a 70 million -year -old giant titanosaur is almost intact.

Damien Boschetto He was strolling his dog in Surroundings, Herault, southern France, in an area where a landslide had recently revealed part of a cliff.

Three years later, science thanks Boschetto for the happy chance of 25 years old, being an amateur paleontologist who managed to identify large bones embedded in the rock in the rock. This is because its discovery would be considered one of the most amazing paleontological discoveries of Europe in recent decades.

The young man rushed to reveal the potential discovery to a local archaeological and paleontological association. He had found an almost complete skeleton of a 70 million -year -old giant titanosaur.

With Boschetto, the Cruzy museum researchers team revealed the 9 -meter -long Titanosaurus skeleton – about 70% intact, a highly rare level of preservation, especially in upper Cretaceous creatures for about 70 million years.

The titanosaurs are one of the largest species of known dinosaurs – the titanosaur Patagotitan mimery It is literally the greatest dinosaur scientists have discovered to this day. They were gigantic herbivores, known for their elongated necks and global presence during the final era of dinosaurs.

To this day, fully articulated skeletons of these creatures are rarely found: the most complete skeleton of a tyrant rex, known as “Sue”, is about 90% complete and was widely studied at Field Museum in Chicago.

Despite the numerous excavations around the world, totally articulated skeletons of these creatures are rarely found.

And the discovery changed the life of a young man in love with the area: Boschetto left his job in the energy sector to follow the dream of taking his master’s degree in paleontology thanks to his exciting discovery, he told.

For now, researchers are still trying to determine the exact species of the titanosaur found, but the discovery is already classified as one of the most important ever made in French territory.

The fossil is being prepared for public exhibition at the Cruzy Museum.
