Clayton Sassá (União Brasil) believed that the Church of Capão Bonito would be destroyed and proposed protection of the place for its historical value

The councilman (União Brasil) of the city of Capão Bonito, in the interior of São Paulo, said it was contrary to the tipping of a church because it believed it would be demolished.

During the City Council session on June 2, the councilman positioned himself “fully”To the tipping of the Mother Church of Our Lady of Conception of Capão Bonito which, according to him, should“become a public heritage”. In the statement, the councilman demonstrated unaware of the meaning of overturning: a set of measures adopted by the government to protect movable and immovable property with historical value.

I am not Catholic, but I respect each one, every belief, every religion. My point of view, as it is a historic church, 150 years, is not 150 days, not 150 months. (I am) totally contrary to the tipping of this church. On the contrary, it has to become a historical public heritage of our municipality because it is a mark for the Catholic Church”Said Sassá during a speech in the House.

The councilman also suggested that the protection measures be implemented. “I will file a request so that in that locality a protocol, a measure, to be extremely forbidden to pass truck on that street and, if, be fined”Concluded Sassá. The suggestion of the Church’s tipping was presented by Councilman Daan Hairdresser (MDB).

It is a process that recognizes and preserves movable or immovable property of historical, artistic, cultural, architectural or affective value, preventing them from being destroyed or uncharacterized. The origin of the city of Capão Bonito is directly linked to the church, since the village came around it. The 1st Mass of the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Mother Church of Capão Bonito do Paranapanema was celebrated on August 22, 1850. The Church underwent a great restructuring in the early twentieth century and one in 1999, when the last major renovation was made.
