Prison guards process activist in four million euros, a thousand euros for each guard, for defamation in case of death by hanging in the Linhó chain.
The Portuguese prison guards will advance with a lawsuit against Momadourequiring compensation of four million euros by alleged defamation and slander, advances this Monday.
At issue is a publication by the anti -racist activist on social networks, in which he expressed doubts about the official version of the suicide of a 25 -year -old black man on 21 May at the Linhó prison establishment.
In the published message, Ba claims to have “a lot of difficulties in believing” in suicides of black people in prisons, suggesting that these deaths may be associated with the violence of prison guards.
“I always have a hard time believing ‘natural deaths’ and, much less, ‘suicides’ of black people in prisons. My conviction is that the probability of being killed by the violence of prison guards is higher than any other possibility of natural death or suicide. The history of black people’s lynching, torture and murders in the prison industry is known, ”BA wrote on his social networks on May 22, accompanied by the capture of the news screen concerned with the 25 -year -old found hanged at the Linhó chain cell.
The statements caused “the revolt of all the prison guards of the country”, and the accusations are false, defends the president of the National Union of the Prison Guard (SNCGP), Frederico Morais.
“There are very few suicides in the Portuguese chains and there is no registration of homicides starring guards. In Portugal, we have the freedom to say what we want, of course, but this insult insults the entire professional class and is false and unfair. We cannot admit it,” said the official to CM.
The union requires a Compensation of a thousand euros for each guarda total of four thousand affected professionals. If the Court determines the payment of compensation, it will be fully donated to the Portuguese Institute of Oncology (IPO) of Porto and Lisbon.
