Mayor gave the statement after accepting to keep part of the decree and new government measures to raise the collection
The President of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicans-PB), said on Monday (9.Jun.2025) that the Minister of Finance, “Needed” all measures and rates to compensate for the partial revocation of the decree that increased by the IOF (Tax on Financial Operations).
After meeting with Motta and Senate President (União Brasil-AP), Haddad, will edit an MP (Provisional Measure) to increase other taxes and compensate for the revenue that ceases to obtain with the discharge in the IOF. Thus, the head of the economic team keeps the promise of having a (gross domestic product).
In this Monday (9.Jun), Motta stated that Congress does not have “commitment” to approve the text that proposes alternatives to the increase of IOF. He made the statements at the event “Agenda Brasil”, by Grupo Globo, held in São Paulo.
“There is no commitment to approve these measures that come from the MP. The provisional measure will be sent only so that, from an accounting point of view, the contingency that is already being done has not to be increased.”he declared.
Haddad’s victory
The Minister of Finance had a political victory over the presidents of the House and Senate by being able to keep part of the decree that stipulates a discharge of IOF. The head of the economic team will raise other taxes to compensate for what they are unable to raise the IOF – and congress leaders, who always claim to be against tax increases, ended up agreeing.
Motta and Alcolumbre had revoked the IOF Decree, which entered into force on June 2, 2025. The deadline would win this week on Tuesday (10.jun).
At the end of Sunday’s meeting (8.Jun), Motta and Alcolumbre left saying that they had gotten a victory because the IOF decree would be revised and also because the government was in accordance with a public spending review. It turns out that there was a political defeat of the presidents of the House and Senate. In practice, there will be an increase in taxes, albeit less than the initially desired by the Planalto Palace and the Ministry of Finance.
