The Brazilian government “firmly condemned” the attack perpetrated on Saturday against the senator and candidate for presidency of Miguel Uribe Turbay and expressed his “vehemently disseminated” to any form of violence, official sources said on Sunday (8). In a statement, the government expressed its solidarity to the senator and his family and wished him a quick recovery.
It also applauded the rapid arrest of the suspects by the Colombian authorities and expressed confidence that a “complete case investigation” will be conducted. Uribe, presidential candidate for the Democratic Center opposition party for the 2026 elections, was the victim of an attack yesterday afternoon in Modelia, a neighborhood located in western Bogota.
The senator, who was shot twice on his head, remains hospitalized at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogota, where he underwent a delicate surgery that lasted approximately four hours last night, although his health remained critical, according to the medical bulletin.
