Governor has signaled the intention to reelect himself in Sao Paulo while awaiting the final decision of former president and political godfather Jair Bolsonaro-at the moment, ineligible
The president of Gilberto Kassab, announced last Sunday (8) that the party is prepared to support the governor of São Paulo, if he decides to apply for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. The statement was made during an event last weekend, where Kassab emphasized that the support of the PSD is conditioned to Tarcisio’s withdrawal from competing for reelection to the São Paulo government. This decision reflects the party’s strategy of prioritizing Tarcisio as a potential presidential candidate, although also considering other weight names, such as Mouse Júnior, governor of Paraná, and Eduardo Leite, governor of Rio Grande do Sul.
During the event, Kassab made it clear that if Tarcisio chooses to run for presidency, the center-right will not present another candidate, thus reinforcing the unified support to the Paulista Governor. However, Tarcísio de Freitas has reiterated his intention to seek reelection in Sao Paulo while awaiting the final decision of Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro, currently ineligible, has not yet ruled out the possibility of a future candidacy, which may influence Tarcisio’s decisions. In addition, Kassab took the opportunity to defend the implementation of mixed vote in Brazil, a bill that has already been approved by the Senate in 2017 and still awaiting a vote in the House of Representatives.
