Rodolfo Landim stated that the absence of his own stadium compromises Flamengo’s technical performance in high level competitions. In an interview with CNN Sports S/A, The former president said he was one of the first advocates of the idea of taking the club to other regions of the country, but stressed that this does not replace the importance of a fixed home.
“I understand that it has it to visit the country. It is a national presence club. And I am proud to have been one of the people who most insisted with President Rubens Lopes, from Ferj, to try to turn the Carioca Championship into something more national. The idea was to take the games – not the great classics, but the other Flamengo games – to other cities, scattered throughout Brazil.”
“Why? Because it’s a way to make this fans out of the river, more loyal. Since often these people have no opportunity to see Flamengo closely. So you have to take them to them. And I was the first to defend it.”
Nevertheless, Landim believes that the absence of his own stadium negatively impacts more demanding championships.
“But in the most important championships, where there is greater competitiveness, such as the Brazilian Championship, not having a stadium of its own brings technical loss. You lose the home factor, get tired more players by running the whole country … It hurts the performance.”
The former president again questioned the commitment of the current management with the project of the Rubro-Black Arena.
“This is a personal vision. But, honestly, I have doubt if this current administration is really committed to building the stadium. Although in the campaign it was said that I supported the project, everything I have been listening to – leaks, small information passed to the press – implies that they are trying to change the narrative. Create a justification not to do.”
Landim also indicated that the project stoppage could motivate him to consider a return to.
“I’m being very frank. And honestly, I have no personal interest in this. But this may be one of the reasons that would make me think, in the future, to return to Flamengo. If this project is not taken further, it may be a motivation for me,” said Landim
