The treaty, signed in 2023, will enter into force 120 days after 60th ratification
French President Emmanuel Macron said today that he expects the high sea treaty to be ratified by sufficient countries to come into force and has announced new commitments to reach at least 60 ratifications.
“Beyond the 50 ratifications already presented here in the last hours, 15 [outros] Countries have formally pledged to join, “Emmanuel Macron said at the opening of the UN Oceans conference, which today began in Nice, in southeastern France.
Macron added that “the political agreement has been achieved,” allowing to say that the high seas treaty “will be properly implemented” without specifying a calendar.
The treaty, signed in 2023, will enter into force 120 days after the 60th ratification.
