The Federal Deputy (-RJ), former chief of (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), testifies to the first class of (Supreme Federal Court) on Monday (9) as defendant in the process of the 2022 coup plot.
First to testify after the former assistant of orders, which signed an agreement from, the congressman will be heard after the disposal between the court and the suspension of the criminal action against him.
Profile
Alexandre Ramagem, 53, is a delegate of and was Director General of Abin in the Bolsonaro government. In addition to the coup plot, the congressman is one of the targets of investigation in the case of “Parallel Abin”, alleged illegal espionage scheme of disaffected from the former president.
He approached Bolsonaro in 2018 when he headed his safety during the election race. It took over ABIN and, in 2022, left the agency’s command to run for a place in the House of Representatives. Two years later, he ran for the city of Rio de Janeiro, having been defeated by ().
Indictment
The (Attorney General’s Office) accuses branch, as well as other defendants of the first core of the coup plot, crimes of armed criminal organization, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup, damage qualified by violence and serious threat and deterioration of overturned heritage.
The complaint binds branch to the dissemination of misinformation on the electronic ballot boxes and the STF and the misuse of ABIN’s structure to pursue opponents and discredit the institutions.
Chamber
Upon receipt of the complaint, Ramagem starred in a dispute between the Supreme Court and the House, which has the prerogative of suspending criminal actions against deputies for crimes committed after diploma, according to constitutional provision.
Even alerted by the Supreme Court that this protection applied only to qualified damage crimes and deterioration of listed assets, the house approved a maneuver to suspend the entire process, with a breach to reach other defendants beyond it. The Court, however, invalidated the decision and determined the partial suspension of the action.
Defense
Ramage’s lawyer states that the PGR accusation does not bring new facts and that Mauro Cid’s denunciation, one of the grounds of the complaint, does not prove the deputy’s participation in the alleged criminal organization.
The defense denied the charges on messages against electronic ballot boxes and the existence of an “parallel abin.” It also says it consider inconsistent to imputation of the attack on the Democratic Rule of Law, as Ramagem applied for federal deputy after commanding the agency.
