Explosion occurred at 22:30
Two people died and five were injured following the rupture and explosion of a gas conduct, which caused the fall of a residential building in the Chinese province of Fujian, local press advanced today.
According to state television CCTV, the explosion occurred at 10:30 pm (15:30, in Lisbon) on Monday in the city of Nan’an.
The explosion provoked the collapse of the three -story building. Two people who were arrested inside were found lifeless, while five others were injured.
According to the same source, rescue operations on site have been completed and the five injured are in a stable state. Investigations were opened to determine the cause of the accident.
Accidents related to gas leakage are relatively common in China due to aged infrastructures and deficiencies in safety systems. In June 2023, a similar explosion in a restaurant in the city of Yinchuan, in the northwest of the country, caused 31 dead. In October of the same year, another incident in a residential zone in the city of Shiyan, in the province of Hubei, caused several victims and rekindled the debate on the supervision of urban gas networks.
