Who once experienced what damage can do slugs in the garden knows that the fight with these snails is no fun. Young salad seedlings disappear overnight, herbs are gnawed and flower beds resemble pieces of lace rather than carefully planted plants. Instead of constantly collecting slugs or using chemistry, which can harm even useful animals, but there is a more natural way. The plants that slugs hate from the soul

Slugs have a relatively sensitive sense of smell and taste receptors spread throughout the body, but especially on the antennae. This can avoid plants that repel them. And that is what every gardener can use. One of the strongest natural repellents is lavender. Its intense fragrance is pleasant and soothing for us, but the slugs avoid it. In addition, it is easy to care, tolerates drought well and blooms beautifully. Ideal for the edges of beds or flower pots as a protective barrier.

Another very effective herb is rosemary. The aromatic shrub, known from the kitchen, is completely unpleasant for slugs. His stiff stem and strongly scented leaves simply don’t fit them. Rosemary is also a perennial that will last for several years and, in addition to the protective function, also offers culinary use.

The perennials that slugs do not eat include geranium or cakes. He has not only beautiful flowers, but above all hairy leaves, which literally interfere with slugs. For these reasons, they often ignore it. Moreover, cake is great to cover the soil, which also prevents weed growth.

Some plants do not discourage slugs so much with their aroma as the structure or substances they contain. A great example is a pryšec. This plant excludes milk juice, which is not just inedible, but can even be toxic to slugs. At the same time, it is decorative and can withstand worse conditions.

Another elegant helper is hydrangea. Although it looks gentle, its leaves really do not like slugs. In addition, the hydrangea is suitable for shaded areas and thanks to their ability to change the color of flowers according to pH soil will also please visually. Finally, ferns that have strong, leathery leaves that certainly do not go to slugs. They are excellent as a shadow -loving undergrowth and are almost maintenance -free. This means ideal for gardeners who want to have a nice but undemanding greenery all year round.

When choosing plants for the garden, you do not have to decide only according to their beauty or use. With a little strategy, you can create a green space that will not only be aesthetic and fragrant, but also naturally protected from slugs. Whether you choose lavender, rosemary or perhaps spur, you will make yourself happy, and a proper cut through the budget of all hungry snails.
