Deputy and former director of the agency says he will prove his innocence; Pgr accuses him of espionage and dissemination of misinformation against Bolsonaro opponents

The federal deputy and former director of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), (PL-RJ), denied involvement in an attempted coup d’état to maintain (PL) in power after the defeat in the 2022 presidential elections.

Ramagem was the 2nd defendant of core 1 of the scam attempt to be interrogated on Monday (9.Jun.2025). The congressman said he will prove his innocence during the testimony. “There is no truth in the imputation of crimes. We are here to demonstrate innocence”he declared.

During the testimony, Ramagem stated that the files found on their devices, criticized to the electronic voting system, did not represent plans to attack the ballot box. He described the notes as “Private”.

For the PGR, during the period when delegate Alexandre Ramagem was in charge of ABIN, there was an improper use of intelligence tools for monitoring and misinformation against government opponents.

The complaint also says that the former director “It supervised and had full knowledge” of the infiltrated cell at the agency. He was appointed as responsible for authorizing and allowing members, inside the agency, to create and spread misinformation through false and co -opted profiles on social networks, directing attacks on political and institutional opposition figures.

The cell was composed by federal police officer Marcelo Araújo Bormevet and Army Sergeant, assigned to Abin, Giancarlo Gomes Rodrigues. The group would also have the support of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), led by Augusto Heleno Ribeiro Pereira.

According to the complaint, the activities “Parallel” They started in 2019 and intensified in 2021. In the same period, a document was found with Alexandre Ramagem, entitled “President TSE Informa.Docx”, with metadata indicating that he was guiding Bolsonaro himself to strengthen the narrative of fraud in his public speeches, according to the prosecution.

Interrogation

The 1st class of the Supreme Court began this Monday (9.Jun) to interrogate the defendants of the crucial nucleus in the criminal action for attempted coup. According to PGR, the members of this group were responsible for leading the actions of the criminal organization that aimed to prevent Lula’s possession.

Are part of the group:

  • (PL), former President of the Republic;
  • (PL-RJ), former director general of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) and federal deputy;
  • Almir Garnier, former Navy Commander;
  • Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice and former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District;
  • Augusto Heleno, former minister of GSI (Institutional Security Office);
  • Mauro Cid, former Bolsonaro orders of orders;
  • Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, former Minister of Defense; and
  • former minister of the Civil House and candidate for vice president in 2022.

The interrogations must be completed by Friday (13.jun). The 1st to be heard is Mauro Cid, who signed a collaboration agreement with the STF. The other defendants will be interrogated following, in alphabetical order. The order was thus established so that everyone is aware of what the whistleblower said and thus can exercise the broad right of defense.

All nucleus defendants are required to appear in interrogations, but they can remain silent and answer some or no question. The rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, and the lawyers can ask questions. If other ministers of the 1st class appear, they may also question the defendants.

Once they have been questioned, the defendants no longer have to attend. The only one in the group that will not go to the 1st class plenary is General Braga Netto, who has been pre -tried in Rio de Janeiro since December. He participates in video conferencing.

The interrogations are part of the criminal instruction stage – the production of evidence. Witnesses of prosecution and defense have already been heard and documentary and expert evidence may be produced that are requested by the parties and authorized by the rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Any steps to clarify any facts determined during the instruction can also be performed. Only after this stage does the prosecution and defenses submit their final allegations and Moraes will prepare the final report for the trial.
