In the testimony, Cid stated that Bolsonaro believed that he could find evidence of fraud at the electronic ballot box and thus obtain support from the Armed Forces to reverse the electoral result. “The expectation was that there was a real fraud. As this was not confirmed, the plans did not advance,” he said.
He revealed that the former president even “wipes up” the coup draft, removing names from some prison orders, but keeping that of Moraes. The minister mocked, “The rest was getting a habeas corpus.”
Another relevant excerpt from the testimony dealt with the so -called “Copa 22” document, which provided for spending on transportation, lodging and food of people who would travel to Brasilia. According to Cid, the material was presented at a meeting at the house of General Braga Netto. Although the document was cited in a complaint of the Attorney General’s Office for mentioning, including the murder of public figures such as Lula, Moraes and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Cid stated that he did not pass the content to anyone and that he did not bring details about violent actions.
When asked about a photo of the scammer draft partially covered by a role, Cid denied having taken the image or sent, classifying the document as “poorly written.”
During the interrogation, Cid was also asked about those involved in the alleged coup plot. He stated that there was no structured organization, but individuals who had isolated ideas to the then president. He pointed to Admiral Almir Garnier, former Navy Commander, as the most radical among the military. Braga Netto and former Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira were described as more moderate figures.
At the end of the hearing, Cid’s lawyer Cezar Bitencourt asked if Bolsonaro showed intention to stay in power after defeat. Cid replied that the former president’s focus was to find evidence of fraud in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Bolsonaro, who accompanied the developments, told journalists that he doesn’t expect to be convicted: “I’m fine, I’m quiet. But of course no one wanted to be here.”
The hearings continue on Tuesday (10), with testimony of former Navy commander Almir Garnier, scheduled for 9am.
