The court of condemned anesthesist doctor Giovanni Quintella Bezerra to 30 years in prison, in closed regime, for rape of vulnerable against two women in the delivery room. The trial took place Messa Monday (9). In a statement, the Court reported that “the court of the 2nd Criminal Court of São João de Meriti sentenced anesthetist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra to 30 years in prison, for closed regime, for rape of vulnerable against two women. The anesthetist was also ordered to pay $ 50 thousand reais of moral damages to each of the victims”. The crime happened in July 2022, at the Heloneida Studart Women’s Hospital, in São João de Meriti, in the Baixada Fluminense. On the same day, Giovanni was caught in filming abusing two sedated patients in labor.
Crime
On the day of the crime, the hospital’s nursing staff distrusted the doctor’s attitude, who applied more sedatives than necessary for a cesarean section, leaving women unconscious, and therefore put a cell phone to film it. The delegate responsible for the case at the time, Barbara Lomba, head of the São João de Meriti Woman Care Station, said the images show the doctor with the disagreement woman, while the team has surgery, separated only by the blue sheet, called the surgical field of surgery from the upper body of the parturient, preventing contamination. “It was terrifying to see the actions of the investigated in the video. Here we have a certain experience with atrocities, with very serious, violent conduct, we have been working with crimes for 21 years, we are terrified, it is unbelievable what we have seen, it is very serious,” he said.
“Even more serious because it is a professional who should take care of the patient, the patient is in the hands of that totally vulnerable professional, in a really important moment in life, having a child, inside the Women’s Hospital, which is a specific care center for women,” added the police.
Registration
On July 28, 2023, the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj) decided to the definitive cancellation of the registration of anesthetist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra. The board’s decision was unanimously.
