Threat from Russia is real: Germany will have more bunkers

Tunnels, metro stations, garages, parking parks and cellars. Identification is already underway. Idea is to house 1 million people.

The threat of a war with Russia is real: “We are concerned about the risk of a great war of aggression in Europe”.

The statements are by Ralph Tiesler, president of the Federal Civil Protection Office and assistance in case of catastrophe in the newspaper.

Therefore, the Germany will have more bunkers. And several places are already being identified that can be transformed into shelters: tunnels, meter stations, garages, underground parking parks and cellars of public buildings.

The idea is to expand the bunker network as soon as possible – in a country where there are, which would be able to house about 478,000 people (less than 1% of the German population).

The plan, which had already been last year, should be officially presented this summer. In the short term, the idea is to have a double room: shelters for 1 million people.

The investment can be around 10 billion euros by 2029. Part of this money can serve to reactivar 2 mil bunkers of the Cold War times.

The plan not only includes shelters: there should be reinforcement of Alert systems to the population – mobile applications, signaling on roads and sirens – and protection of platforms against computer attacks.

Ralph Tiesler thinks the Germans should be prepared for any flaws in the supply of water e Electricity. “Ideally, each person should have reservations for 10 days,” he said.

In June, the German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistoriushe said that it was necessary possible war by 2029.

“We need to be ready for war in 2029. We have to act as a deterrent element to prevent the worst from happening. (…) In case of emergency, we need young men and women who can defend this country, ”he said.
