The defense of the general, former Minister of Defense and the Civil House, again asked on Tuesday (10), the revocation of his pre-trial detention. The document was sent to the minister tonight of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), shortly after the interrogation of the general, the last of the eight defendants of the “crucial core” of the coup plot to give testimony.

Lawyer José Luís de Oliveira Lima, who coordinates the defense of Braga Netto, argues that, with the end of the process instruction, there is no more justification to keep him in prison. “The precautionary custody of General Braga Netto is even more unjustified in the current procedural moment, in which all witnesses have already been heard and all interrogations have been performed, simply no alleged risk cogitable to procedural instruction,” says the request.

The defense calls for the revocation of the preventive, “even with the imposition of alternative precautionary measures.” Braga Netto was arrested preventively in December 2024 on suspicion of trying to obstruct the coup plan investigation. According to the Federal Police, he tried to achieve confidential information about the denunciation of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid to pass on to other investigated and also aligned versions with allies. The defense denies.

Released contact

With the conclusion of the interrogations of the defendants of the “crucial core” of the coup plot, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF), revoked the decision that prevented them from maintaining contact. With this, former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and his allies can talk again.

The decision was announced on Tuesday night (10), after the testimony of General Walter Braga Netto, the last of the eight defendants questioned in the STF. It was two days of audiences. The coup plot process now enters the final phase. From this Tuesday, the defenses can already ask for the production of complementary evidence. Subsequently, the deadline for the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the lawyers submit the final allegations, the last stage before the trial.
