Felipe VI Visit to the NATO Spanish Combat Group in front of Russia

Felipe VI Supervisa on Wednesday the deployment and operation capacity of the NATO Combat Group that Spain leads in Slovakia, one of the eight available to the alliance in the so -called East Flanco as a deterrent to Russia.

The King of Spain has moved from Bratislava in a Chinok helicopter in the land army to this training base in southern Slovakia, and where the combat group has executed maneuvers in which it has demonstrated its capacity for operability as an international brigade.

In this exercise, called Strong Lineage 2025, 1,972 military from seven countries, 75 % of them Spanish, have commanded by Brigadier General Alfonso Pardo de Santayana.

The maneuver, whose success has been certified by NATO, meant rapidly increasing the number of troops and equipment at the Lest base, where the international combat group is based, arriving from different countries, and coordinating its deployment.

In the exercise, the integration capacity of all these forces and capacities has been verified: from campaign artillery equipment, air defense units, engineers and logistics groups.

During the visit it is expected that the king will be informed of the development of the maneuvers, in which there were real shooting exercises, and of the different skills tested during the Strong Lineage 25. He will also greet the members of the Spanish contingent outstanding in Slovakia.

Several aircraft of the Army of the Earth: two EC-665 tiger attack helicopters, and Chinoak and NH-90 transport, and about 400 vehicles in total have taken part in the Strong Lineage.

Felipe VI already visited the Spanish troops yesterday in Cincu, Romania, where another of the international combat groups is based on the deployment of NATO on the east flank, reinforced after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In total, the alliance has eight combat groups of this type, in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Spain also has military deployed in Latvia and Romania.

In Cincu, Felipe VI confirmed the commitment of Spain with the Alliance and with the support of Ukraine and transmitted to the Spanish soldiers “the gratitude and pride of all, in Spain” for their work.
