Flamengo and former President Rodolfo Landim ended a lawsuit that moved against commentator Gian Oddi and ESPN. The action had been opened in 2020, after criticism from Oddi to the club’s posture during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The lawsuit arrived at the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), after conflicting court decisions in the previous instances. At first, Flamengo obtained victory in the first instance and was entitled to compensation for moral damages. However, the decision was reversed by the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, which understood that the criticism was a legitimate manifestation of opinion.

What did Gian Oddi talk about Flamengo?
The commentary of journalist Gian Oddi occurred in March 2020, when he classified the stance of the red-black board as “inhuman” for trying to keep the Carioca Championship in the midst of the sanitary crisis.
At the time, he also recalled other controversial episodes, such as the club’s driving after the Urubu’s Nest Fire, which killed ten people.
– The most terrifying of all is Flamengo’s posture at the meeting. Try to continue the championship. It’s unbelievable! I find it unbelievable on what Flamengo’s leaders are because, unlike the President of the Republic, who is an ignorant irresponsible, almost a bordering, Flamengo leaders have knowledge, culture, intelligence, ”he said.

With the negative repercussion, the club and the leaders claimed that they had been unfairly attacked and decided to trigger the court. The amount requested in the share was R $ 45 thousand for moral damages by Gian Oddi and ESPN, cited as responsible for the alleged damage to the image of the institution and the managers.
With the reversal of the decision in the second instance, the defendants were exempt from the indemnity. Even so, the authors insisted on taking the case to the STJ.
Closing of the judicial dispute
Even after the club gave up the process, Landim and former legal vice Rodrigo Dunshee tried to continue with the action individually. However, they abandoned it at the end of May. With this, all the parties involved withdrew from the case, ending it.
According to ‘Folha’, Gian Oddi confirmed that the process had been ended. He did not make additional comments about the outcome. ESPN chose not to speak publicly on legal matters.
Also according to the São Paulo vehicle, Flamengo also did not officially comment on the decision.
