Most of the protesters have already abandoned the mandatory collection zone and the police took some time to empty the surroundings
The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, decreed on Tuesday a mandatory gathering to the city center, following several days of intense protests against Ice Rusgas, which translated into confrontations between protesters and forces of the Order, widespread vandalism and some loots, especially at night and dawn.
The mandatory collection began at 20 hours local (4:00 in Lisbon) and extends until 6 am on Wednesday (14:00 in Lisbon), applying to an area of 1.5 square kilometers in the city center.
A police source explained to CNN that less than 100,000 of the four million La inhabitants will be affected.
“Anyone who remains involved in illegal demonstrations or criminal activity will be arrested and arrested,” said the Los Angeles Police Department in an X publication.
According to a CNN team on the ground, about 10 to 20 people were arrested in the mandatory gathering zone.
Most of the protesters have already abandoned the mandatory gathering zone and the police took some time to empty the surroundings, CNN said Nick Watt from the site.
However, a California road patrol helicopter is flying above Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, where the mandatory collection is being decreed.
The Los Angeles Police Department stated that “dozens of arrests” were made, as several protest groups continued to meet in the designated zone for mandatory to collect it.
“Several groups continue to meet at 1st ST between Spring and Alameda. These groups are being addressed and mass arrests are being started.”
According to the retired captain of the Missouri Road Patrol, Ron Johnson, the mandatory collection could play an important role in reducing protests and allowing peaceful protesters to return home.
“I think it gives agents time to rest a little. Protesters who are legally protest go home. It is the agitators who are still there. So the crowd will be separated and there will be an opportunity for a partnership,” said Johnson, who led the response to protests in Ferguson, Missouri, because of the 18 -year -old Michael Brown shooting by an agent in 2014.
Los Angeles police officers, he added, “will give several opportunities to disperse … But at the berth, they will say, ‘This is our final order’, and will have to fulfill it.”
According to Governor Greg Abbott, members of the Texas National Guard will be highlighted to various places in the state before the protests planned for this week, as the Southern Texas organizations are expected to perform anti-ice rallies on Wednesday and Saturday. The Republican governor said the guard will “use all tools and strategies to help police maintain order”
