Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that there was a “significant progress” in efforts to ensure the release of remaining hostages in Gaza, but that it is “very early” to feed hope that an agreement will be achieved.

A source familiar with the negotiations said Washington was giving Hamas more guarantees in the form of measures that would lead to the end of the war, but that the American authorities were optimistic, not Israeli. The source has stated that there is pressure from Washington so that the deal is closed as soon as possible.

The White House National Security Council and US envoy representatives Steve Witkoff, who is leading US efforts in ceasefire negotiations, have not immediately responded to requests for comments. The representatives of Hamas do not.

Israel’s leadership has said it will maintain war until the remaining 55 hostages kept in Gaza are released and when Hamas, whose October 2023 attack triggered the war, is dismantled.

Hamas, who has been Gaza since 2007, said he would no longer rule after the war if a Palestinian and Aparti -to -do technocratic committee took control, but refused to disarm.

The US proposed a 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Israel stated that it would comply with the terms, but Hamas called for changes. The militants said they would free all hostages in exchange for a permanent end of war.
