Console released on June 5 surpasses initial sales of PlayStation 5 and sets a record in the history of the Japanese company

Nintendo sold 3.5 million Switch 2 console units in the first 4 days after its launch. The Japanese company released the numbers this Wednesday (11.jun.2025). The launch took place on Thursday (05.jun.2025), when fans waited until midnight by opening stores in several countries.

“It is the highest worldwide sales level for any Nintendo equipment in the first 4 days”said the company in a statement.

The performance of the new console exceeds both its predecessor and the main competitors. The original switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month, while Sony’s PlayStation 5 traded 3.4 million in the same initial period. PlayStation 2, the best -selling console in history, did not exceed 2 million units before completing two weeks in the market.

Switch 2 has improvements compared to the previous model, with a larger screen and upper processing capacity. The device has 256GB storage, faster than the previous one, two USB-C ports and better visual quality, with HDR effect for games and maximum 4K resolution charts. , the original switch has sold 155 million units, becoming the 3rd best-selling console of all time.

In the United States, the new console costs US $ 499.99 (R $ 2,769.94 in the current price), higher than the original model, sold for US $ 299.99 (R $ 1,661.44). In Brazil, Switch 2 is available from R $ 4,500. Even at the highest price, Nintendo projects to market 15 million units by March 2026, a volume similar to that recorded by the original switch in its 1st year.

Darang Candra of Niko Partners (Market Research Company) shows caution about maintaining this sales pace. “It will be difficult to keep the boost of long -term sales”said the analyst.

The expert also related initial sales to possible concerns with future prices. “It may be that consumers want to buy before a possible price increase due to potential US tariffs.”he said.

New games like “Donkey Kong Bananza” and “Mario Kart World” have been released for Switch 2, with higher prices than the titles of the previous model. “Long -term success will depend on Nintendo’s ability to keep interest in new titles and attract occasional players in emerging markets, such as the Middle East and Asian countries outside Japan.”completed Candra.
