At the age of 78, a long -time Kosovo Albanian Prime Minister died in exile Bujar Bukoshi, DPA informed on Wednesday. His death was announced on Tuesday on its Facebook page Democratic League Kosova (LDK), which Bukoshi co -founded.

Bukoshi led the Kosovo government in exile, which was not internationally recognized in 1991 – 2000. Kosovo, inhabited mostly by ethnic Albanians, was under the administration of Yugoslavia and Serbia until 1999. After the disintegration of the multiethnic Yugoslavia at the beginning of the 90s, the Albanian majority began to strive for the independence of this province.

Bukoshi, the original profession of a doctor, in exile He organized the financing of the parallel Albanian school and health system in Kosovo. He received money as gifts from Kosovo Albanians living abroad. These parallel structures were part of the then non -violent resistance of the Kosovo Albanians towards the Serbian government. Bukoshi lived in Bonn during this period (1993-99).

In 1998-99, the armed uprising of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) broke out. His brutal suppression of Serbian security forces, which included civilians’ massacres and the expulsion of the population, led to NATO’s intervention in 1999.

After the subsequent withdrawal of Serbian military and administrative structures He worked in Bukoshi in Kosova’s government offices, which were under the UN report. Kosovo declared independence in 2008 – this step was recognized by more than 100 countries, but Serbia, Russia and China do not belong to them. LDK is currently an opposition party.
