It approved it on Tuesday (10) the end of the reduction of penalty for sexual crimes committed against women. The decision extinguishes the attenuating age for criminals under 21 or over 70, a legal breach that previously allowed the penalties to reduce. The bill, which had already been approved by the House of Representatives, now awaits the sanction of the president (PT). The president has the option to sanction the text in full or veto specific parts, but the expense is that the measure will be well received.

Deputy Laura Carneiro, author of the bill, stressed the importance of the measure as an instrument to combat impunity and protecting victims of sexual violence. According to her, the proposal aims to send a clear message of zero tolerance against sexual crimes, especially those committed against women. The new legislation, if sanctioned, will be applied only to crimes committed after its publication, ensuring that there is no retroactivity that may affect previous cases.
