Ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) saw the interrogation of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as “no news” and “within the script”. For magistrates heard by the globe, the former representative fulfilled a script that was already expected, without presenting new elements and seeking to ward off the charges that weigh against him.

The magistrates’s understanding also extends to the other defendants who were questioned throughout this Tuesday and Monday, in approximately 15 hours of testimonials. The backstage evaluation of the Supreme is that, as defendants can no longer tell the truth, it is expected that there is no twists and the reports focus on the negative of the imputed facts.

From now on, with the closure of this phase, the accused can comment on any new steps. Only then can the action enter the conclusive line, with the so -called final allegations – a moment that precedes the judgment.

In his interrogation, Bolsonaro said he never endorsed a draft that predicted coup d’état and would not have seen the document, only “considered”. He denied discussing the arrest of authorities and justified the absence at the inauguration ceremony of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stating that he would avoid “the largest boo in history of Brazil”. He also reiterated criticism of the electoral system, claiming to have “doubts” about the electronic ballot box.

In March, the first class accepted a complaint made by the Republic (PGR) and became Bolsonaro defendants and seven others accused of integrating the crucial core of the coup plot planning. Upon receipt of the action, witnesses have been heard in recent weeks. Among them were names such as former army commanders, General Marco Antonio Freire Gomes, and Aeronautics, Lieutenant Brigadier Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior. In addition to them, also spoke the vice president of Bolsonaro management, today Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicados-RS), and the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas.

The expectation in the Supreme Court is that the action is ready to be tried at the beginning of the second semester, and that the analysis can occur between September and October. In addition to Alexandre de Moraes, the other four members of the first class, the ministers Flávio Dino, Luiz Fux, Cristiano Zanin and Cármen Lúcia will participate in the trial. They will decide for the conviction or acquittal of the defendants.
