With the smoothness trying to return to Syria, but also in the summer, the new Islamic authorities of Ahmad al -Sarah have decided that women in the country should wear … burkini or clothing that fully covers the body on public beaches. However, as announced by the measure, private, luxury hotel complexes are excluded.
Rely on the ‘common interest’
This decision by the Ministry of Tourism was announced for six months after the Islamists’ coalition overthrew Bashar al -Assad’s regime. Citing the “common interest”, in a country known to coexist many different religions and ethnicities, the ministry calls on holidaymakers to wear “more modest” clothes on the beaches.
Women in particular should wear a bourbon or other swimsuit that covers the whole body. In addition to the seaside zones, they should wear “wide” clothes while men are forbidden to circulate naked.
Restrictions do not apply to private hotel complexes where “western swimsuits are allowed”. Other hotels must adhere to new instructions.
In addition, the ministry said that in public places women should wear loose clothes, cover shoulders and knees and avoid “transparent or very narrow clothes”.
It was not clarified whether sanctions – and what kind – would be imposed if the new regulations are violated.
Reactions and contradictions
On social networking platforms, users were divided when the measures were announced, with some being positive and others considering that their freedoms are limited. “Syria is a moderate and open country and should accept everyone without exclusion (…) the ministry must review the decision,” commented one woman, Saa, on the Facebook Tourism Ministry page.
On the contrary, a man, Yama Cambisos, wrote: “It is mandatory to respect the culture of Syrian society. We thank the Ministry of Tourism. ”
After the Islamists have taken power, many Syrians are afraid that their individual freedoms will be limited. In May, a woman was killed by armed people who attacked a nightclub. There are videos on the internet where young people repeat religious slogans or seek to close the bars serving alcohol.
