An Air India aircraft to 242 passengers on board crashed near the airport, earlier this Thursday (12/6), which triggered large-scale rescue operations and widespread panic in the area.

The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, fell shortly after the takeoff from Ahmedabad airport, in the densely populated Meghani area.

Black smoke columns were seen rising from the scene of the accident, as recorded in images shared by the local press.

According to preliminary reports, the flight went into emergency shortly after takeoff and fell into a residential area, which led to the immediate response of the local residents, who ran to help with rescue efforts even before emergency services arrived. Seven fire brigade and several rescue teams were mobilized to the site to control the fire and seek survivors. Details about victims or injured are still awaited while the situation unfolds.
