The National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq) has already been sought by six to eight private groups interested in participating in the auction of the new container of containers in the port of Santos (SP).
According to reports made to CNN By authorities directly involved with auction preparations, this demonstrates that they should not harm the dispute for the project.
At least four large foreign operators have already sought the Brazilian government and Antaq to talk about Tecon Santos 10: the Chinese Cosco navigation company; Also Chinese China Merchants, which operates a container terminal in Paranaguá (PR); PSA, Singapore’s port authority and one of the largest on the planet; and Filipina Ictsi, which already operates in Suape (PE) and Rio de Janeiro.
Two Brazilian groups also expressed interest: and the National Siderúrgica Company (CSN). JBS took over last year the operation of the port of Itajaí (SC). CSN is ahead of the Itaguaí Container Terminal (RJ), with Sepetiba Tecon.
In addition to them, authorities reported to the CNN The interest of two financial market investors: BTG and the homeland investments. If they eventually participate and win the auction, however, they will need to hire an operator.
Whether part of the company or as a contracted operator, Antaq has already decided to veto participation – at least in the first stage of the auction – from those who already move containers in Santos.
This rule takes from the dispute to French CMA CGM (owner of Santos Brazil), Switzerland MSC and Danish Maersk (BTP controllers) and DPW (from the UAE).
In a second stage, if there are no throws in the first phase, the auction would be open to current operators in Santos. They could only take over Tecon Santos 10, but after undoing the current assets – a requirement that is also the object of criticism from the companies.
Antaq has defined a prerequisite: the operator of the new supermminal needs prior experience in the movement of 100,000 containers per year.
Tecon Santos 10, when fully operational, will move 3.5 million annual containers and expand the capacity of the largest port in Latin America. The expected investment is almost $ 6 billion.
In the order in which the modeling approved by Antaq, the National Secretary of Ports, Alex Avila, states: “Tecon Santos 10 should provide the market with the best auction model to expand the country’s largest port asset, especially allowing competitive proportionality to be treated in an isonomic way, always seeking coherent and adequate application of public policies that give the expansion of the sector.”
