In Austria it is comparatively easy to get weapons. This is also evident in the official figures: the number of people with registered weapons has increased steadily in recent years. There were around 300,000 owners in 2018, and at June 2025 there were almost 375,000. This is an increase of almost 25 percent in seven years. The development in the number of registered weapons is even more clearly evident: the number has increased by almost 50 percent since 2018. According to the Interior Ministry, 1,518,873 weapons were recently registered in Austria.
