The coalition is prepared for compromises at the government amendment to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. This was announced by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico (Smer-SD) during Thursday’s questions in the plenary of the National Council (NR) SR. He believes that the penetration and proposal will support the necessary 90 deputies in the definitive vote in Parliament.

“Under the government of the Slovak Republic, I would like to emphasize that we are ready for compromises in terms of amendments that may be presented primarily to the relevant constitutional committee in the second and third reading. I believe it will be an interesting discussion, ” declared the Prime Minister.

He intends that the vote on the amendment of the Constitution in the National Council of the Slovak Republic will be tight. The legislators keeps his fingers crossed for an agreement. “I have seen some suggestions and I can say that there could be a conformity between political parties and the National Council of the Slovak Republic could achieve a qualified majority,” noted. He appealed to the deputies not to be discouraged by cheap speeches.

In his own words, Fico notes that the proposal provokes a broad political debate. He refused that there would be some sanctions for the amendment to the Constitution. He described the proposal as a historically important amendment to the Constitution and justified it again. He thinks it is right to anchor two genders in the Constitution of the Slovak Republic and set the conditions for adoption of children. “We do not come up with anything worldly, we have taken exactly the same provision from the Family Act, we just promote it to the constitutional level,” he argued.

The ongoing negotiations on the support of the government proposal for the amendment of the Constitution on Thursday was also confirmed by Deputy Chairman of Parliament Tibor Gašpar (Smer-SD). “It is still in the meeting phase, I wouldn’t overtake, but I’m an optimist“He commented. He also pointed out one of the surveys that most Slovaks wish constitutional change.

MEPs are to take over at the current meeting and subsequently to vote on the government amendment of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic. According to the proposal, two genders – a man and a woman – should be anchored. It should also be added to the guarantee of equality between men and women in rewarding for work. The Constitutional Act should also address adoption of children and parents could have the right to decide on the participation of children in the educational process if it is beyond the educational program. The proposal should also be achieved by the sovereignty of Slovakia in value and cultural-ethical issues.
