On the morning of Thursday (12), a tragic plane crash shook the city of Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, at. A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner Air India plane crashed shortly after takeoff near the local airport. The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers, among them, possibly, former Indian state minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani. So far, the rescue teams have been able to remove between 30 to 35 bodies from the rubble, while the search for survivors continues. A hostel that housed doctors and medical students was hit, which led some people to jump from the building in despair.
The accident occurred shortly after takeoff when the pilot issued a Mayday, an emergency signal rarely used at this stage. The aircraft was at a speed of 320 km/hea an altitude of about 200 meters, but failed to gain the power needed to climb. The investigation of the accident will be conducted by the National Civil Aviation Agency of India, with the support of US and British agencies, due to the origin of the manufacturer of the plane, Boeing. This accident marks the first major incident involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, although Air India has already faced other problems in the past.
