The former president of Argentina was on Wednesday to serve in her apartment the sentence of six years for corruption that was confirmed by the court, while her defense denounced “political persecution” to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and her supporters showed outrage.

The Argentine Supreme Court maintained on Tuesday the publication of six years in prison and perpetual ineligibility against the former president (2007–2015) by fraudulent administration in public works contracts in Santa Cruz Province (south). She received a period of five business days to surrender to the Federal Court.

Her lawyers asked the 72 -year -old Peronist leader to serve in her apartment in the Constación neighborhood of Buenos Aires. “We ask for house arrest that is granted to people over 70,” said lawyer Carlos Beraldi to journalists. “We are not demanding privileges, only that the same treatment is given to any other person in the same legal situation,” he continued.

By noting that in 2022 a man twice squeezed the trigger of a pistol centimeters from Kirchner’s head without the bullets, Beraldi argued that the former president “was the victim of an attack and so far the intellectual authors have not been identified.” At the same time, lawyer Gregorio Dalbón answered Hague to denounce to the ICC a “political persecution” against the main opponent of the Ultraliberal government.

“This explanation is the result of an addicted process, directed from the origin to achieve a political goal: to proscribe the woman who most often won at the polls since redemocratization,” Dalbón wrote in the X, announcing that he will also resort to the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights. Kirchner herself accused Tuesday of “puppets” the three judges of the Supreme Court who voted against her and, in the face of a multitude of supporters, said that “the sentence was already written” before the trial.

“There was justice”

From Israel, where he is traveling, Milei commented on X the decision of the Superior Court: “Justice. End.” Also his safety minister, Patricia Bullrich, opined: “Three instances, hundreds of evidence and all guarantees of due process. There was justice.” Meanwhile, hundreds of Kirchner supporters gathered in front of their home since Wednesday morning, after thousands accompanied her until the night before, after the sentence was released.

The former president was summoned to greet the released supporters of the balcony. At the same time, doctors at the CamiHan Pediatric Hospital, which have been claiming salary improvements for weeks, protested late in the Praça de Maio, in downtown Buenos Aires, along with retirees who performed a weekly protest against the Milei government.

“There are colleagues who say, How am I going to take care of the children of others if I can’t take care of mine?” I told AFP Yanina, a 32 -year -old nurse who didn’t reveal the surname, in the midst of Kirchner and posters who denounced “proscription.” Students from the University of Buenos Aires occupied several colleges on Tuesday “in defense of democratic rights”, and some unions blocked access to capital.
