Following the measures taken by the government against pornographic sites that brought the withdrawal of Pornhub (Aylo) from the country, as well as the ban on use of children under 15 years, reports that the French authorities are seriously considering as the possibility of describing quite a large -scale.
The tone was given by the French Minister of Digital Politics Clara Sapaz, who said her team is considering characterizing social media such as X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Reddit – which allow adult content to be distributed – as platforms.
If this happens, then the aforementioned social media should apply the strict age verification requirements, which came into force on Saturday. In addition, in the event of non -compliance, fines may be imposed on sites, deleted from search engines or completely blocked.
Experts warn that the characterization of social networks as pornographic platforms could have legal implications, but the Sapaz office is currently examining all possible legal aspects.
No comment on posts
So far, social networks X, Reddit and Bluesky have not commented on the publications. X rules report that users under 18 or those who have not stated their date of birth cannot see pornographic content. However, the lack of age verification allows adolescents to bypass this restriction.
It is noted that this is not the first time X has been facing pornographic restrictions. In 2024, the Belgian authorities expressed concern about the volume of such material, and recently the social network was blocked in Tanzania.
