The private foundation in charge of food cast in Gaza says that five of its workers have died in a Hamas attack
The Humanitarian Foundation for Gaza (FHG) has denounced in the early hours of Thursday the death of at least five Palestinian workers after an attack by Hamas against the bus in which they were traveling, it has also said that some members could have been kidnapped.
“We are still collecting information, but what we know is devastating: there are at least five dead, multiple injured and fear that some members of our team have been taken as hostages. We condemn this atrocious and deliberate attack,” says the foundation in a statement.
The attack occurred around 22.00 local time (the 21.00 Spanish peninsular time), according to the text, when a bus transported to more than twenty local Palestinian members “who worked side by side with the American team (…) was brutally attacked by Hamas. At the time of the attack, our team was heading to one of our distribution centers in the west area of Jan Yunis”. The organization fully holds Hamas for the attack and added that this group “has openly threatened” the team in recent days.
Until yesterday, the FHG had distributed 16 million food rations in the Gaza Strip since May 27, which is equivalent to less than two daily meals for four days if the food was reaching the entire population of about 2.1 million gazaties.
Thousands of Gazatis are crowded at dawn near these complexes, guarded by the Israel Army, which usually open for short periods of time – according to the opening and closing messages published by the FHG – after walking kilometers in order to try to collect some food.
There have also been almost daily lethal attacks, in which more than 220 Gazatis and more than 1,800 have died have been injured, according to data from the Gazatí Ministry of Health. (EFE)
