These changes aim to improve players protection and increase the fluidity of games. The changes will take effect in season 2025/26, subject to ratification by the Portuguese Football Federation.
The introduction of an additional and permanent replacement was one of the main changes to the Competition Regulations and disciplinary approved this Wednesday by the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Portuguese Professional Football League, meeting in Porto.
As with other alloys, such as English, the League approved the introduction of an additional and permanent replacement in cases of concussion, with the objective of reinforcing the protection of players’ physical integrity.
A new model was also approved for the replacement of the ball into play, with the implementation of the multilers system, which foresees the placement of several sphericals next to the side lines, a measure that aims to increase the rhythm and fluidity of the matches and that had already been tested in the ‘Final Four’ of the League Cup and the play-offs of the two main crashes.
In addition to these two changes, the League’s Extraordinary General Assembly also approved a set of changes to its competition regulation, which will come into force in season 2025/26, now being dependent on ratification by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
The Magna Meeting, held at the Arena Liga Portugal auditorium, was the first since the new executive direction was entry and marked the debut of the new chairman of the General Assembly, António Saraiva.
The proposals presented by the League management were approved by a large majority by the sports societies present, noting the absences of Rio Ave and Alverca, from the First League, and Mafra, which descended to League 3.
The changes to the disciplinary regulation have also been favorable from the clubs and will now be sent to the FPF management, which will have to call a general assembly for their ratification.
