Night Walk Back to Cantareira State Park – 11/06/2025 – It’s right there

After the season of heavy rains and after a process of reformulation, it is back from this Saturday (14), to the Cantareira State Park, in the North Zone of São Paulo, the night walk, which allows to see the lights of the state capital of Pedra Grande, the city’s largest natural lookout, at 1,100 meters altitude – the reference title, the central region, records 760 meters above sea.

The tour, which can gather up to 120 people, and should be done once a month, included two news in this edition: the activity begins at dusk at 16h, opening the ability to enjoy the sunset, and allows participants to access the Octávio Vecchi Forest Museum.

The route adds a total of 8 kilometers (round trip) easy to walk, but it is always good to remember that, as with any other trail, walking on the bush recommends some care, such as wearing closed and comfortable shoes (no jumps or flat, combined?), Water bottle, flashlight and, of course, repellent – is a special predilection for unprotected skin at the afternoon fall. Considering that in the Atlantic Forest, a biome that includes Cantareira, live more than 3,000 insect species, no one will want to become a banquet of the bicharada, right?

Another essential detail: As the ride of the tour will take place at the full wave of intense cold, and at altitude in the woods the temperature is always lower than the regions where there is concentration of constructions, reinforced warm clothing are fundamental. The temperature up there is generally two degrees than in other more urbanized areas, but the moisture of the vegetation and the winds at the top of the stone make the thermal sensation even smaller. Listen to mom and take the cardigan and, even better, a very warm cap. Believe me, it won’t be left.

The new time offers the opportunity to see how various species of fauna begin their night activities, such as the shrill buge, the green-green toucan, the macuco and the dark-haired saue. Of course, if the visitor is unable to distinguish a rhino from a flea, specialized monitors will tell all the details about local fauna and flora along the ride.

Precisely because of the rich native fauna sample present in the region, it is not allowed to bring your pet to the walk. As in any conservation area, the intention is to avoid eventual soil contamination and water courses with animal waste alien to the biome. And it doesn’t cost to reinforce the message that it is absolutely forbidden to throw any kind of food or packaging on the floor, feed the animals or get soft to the greedy monkeys (who do everything to steal your chocolate, but can spoil your ride with sharp teeth).

In short: Go warm, comfortable, and come back with a lot of history to tell one night in the woods right there.
