SAO PAULO, SP (Folhapress)-The Senator of Colombia (7) in Bogota, presented signs of neurological improvement, but is still hospitalized in serious condition in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), according to a bulletin released by the hospital on Wednesday (11).
“Despite the severity of its state, there are signs of neurological improvement due to decreased cerebral edema. There is also evidence of a tendency to hemodynamic stabilization,” said the Santa Fe Foundation, where the politician is hospitalized.
Leader of the Democratic Center, the main right -wing party of the country and opponent of leftist president Gustavo Petro, Uribe was shot three times while speaking during a rally. He is a presidential candidate in next year’s election.
Uribe underwent surgery on his head and leg. “Mr. Uribe Turbay remains in serious condition and remains under strict neurological monitoring and full management with the necessary supports,” the hospital said.
The attack on Uribe raised tensions in the country and made the population relive the terror of politicians and presidential murders in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A 14 -year -old suspected of shooting the senator was detained and declared himself innocent.
Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez said the minor was used by criminals, and authorities seek intellectual perpetrators of the attack.
On Tuesday (10) the wave of violence climbed further: an attack with rifles and explosives, including cars, motorcycles and bomb buses, killed seven people and left 28 other wounds in the city of Cali and in neighboring municipalities.
The Central Staff (EMC)-Principal Dissent of the Extinct FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and led by Iván Mordisco, the country’s most sought after criminal-operates in the region and maintains a war against the Gustavo Petro government. Without taking responsibility for the attacks, EMC guerrillas issued a statement guiding civilians not to approach military and police foundations.
The attacks take place in the month that marks the anniversary of the death of one of dissident leaders, Leider Johany Noscué, known as Mayimbu. He was shot in a confrontation with police in 2022.
The episodes put Petro, which is accused by the opposition of inciting violence under pressure. The president, who promised “a hunt” to those responsible for the attack on Uribe, only spoke out about the new attacks on Clica at the end of the day, around 6 pm on Tuesday.
He stated in an X post that he requested “a meeting with the military leaders and police in Cali.” According to the president, “all the information that connects the region’s mafia offices to the attack on Senator Uribe Turbay will be studied.”
